with Darlene Thompson
“Playwriting for Puppets: Creating Contrasting Characters” is an entertaining, hands-on workshop to teach puppeteers how to create their own characters. Using examples for literature, TV, and her own work, Thompson will show how creating contrasting characters is a simple process which can inspire a puppet story, or enhance an adaptation. Participants will do some basic character analysis, play a game of opposites, and then experiment with actual puppets to create characters.
Darlene Fedele Thompson has an MFA in Playwriting from Hollins University. She has been writing and performing with puppets for 19 years. Her company, Puppets in Performance, has performed in various venues in her former state of Virginia, and more recently in the Pittsburgh area. Her puppet plays have twice won the award for “Best Children’s Show” at the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival.
